GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA
‘Rackson house’ is located at Jalan Bagan Jermal, George Town and it sits humbly amidst a 2640m² of land area surrounded by landscaped garden. This is a refurbishment project to transform the existing old building into Corporate house by adding a new multi-purpose annex hall, rejuvenating the internal space and external compound.
The project began in 2021 involved the refurbishment of the vacant unused single-storey building and a new extension structure designed in steel and glass playfully set contrast with the heritage building
“Old Meets New” - The project is the exemplification of old architecture meeting the new.
Old building that have “good bones” and character was carefully maintain and given a new lease of live, bathed with abundance of natural lighting in the interiors.
The existing building and the new extension are made up of two interlocking programmatic blocks. Volumes and components make of new materials like steel and glass is inserted into the existing building without touching the existing walls that is still standing firm. This results in a contrast of transparency and texture, exposing the natives between the old and the new.
The new added section is designed in steel and glass that seems to merge into the sky. The glass forms possessed its own contemporary spirit, it came to the design naturally ,finding their way into the plan.
A calm reflective pool that comes right up to the base of the glass building mirrors the site along with the golden shower tree, heritage building, and new annex, blending them harmoniously and holding the viewers’ attention
